Exploration License
- Allows the holder to conduct prospecting and research operation in designated areas [not exceeding 25000 hectares] [ 2500 kilometer/square ] and the license is renewable for up to [3 – 5 years]
- These licenses allow their holders to access the licensed area and to carry out all activities ancillary to prospecting and exploration, such as the construction of temporary structures and the removal or sale of samples and specimens.
- in addition to reporting any discovery of minerals through the National Institute of Mines within 24 hours of discovery, holders of prospecting and exploration licenses must submit an annual report within 28 February and 28 July of each year, summarizing the activities undertaken during the previous year, as well as a work program and budget for the forthcoming year, until 30 March.
Mining concessions license
- allows the exploitation of mineral resources in a gives area and they are granted by the state for the period of equivalent to the life of mining operation up to maximum 25 years. Before commencing extraction activities, the holder of the mining concession must obtain:
1. An environmental license
2. A license to use and exploit the land (DUAT)
3. The approval of a resettlement and compensation plan for the communities affected by the mining activities.
Mining Certificate
granted to any individual or legal person domiciled in Mozambique including both Mozambican nationals and foreigners, the certificate is extendable twice for maximum 2 years each, the provided operation area doesn’t exceed [500 hectares].
Mining pass
granted to individual people of Mozambican nationality which permits the holder to undertake small-scale [artisanal] mining activated [nontransferable license].
Mining Life Cycle
- Expansion 1 -> 2 years. [Reconnaissance License]
- Exploration 2-> 10 years [mapping] [Exploration License].
- Evaluation 3-> 6 years [mining study] [Exploration license].
- Development 1->3 years. [Exploration License]
- Production 10->50 years. [Mining Concessions License ]
- Closure 1->10 years. The mining concessionaire shall notify the Ministry of Mineral Resources 6 months before permanently closing a mine and such notice shall include the reasons for the decision to close the mine.
